Stampede site far from camps of Bahraini pilgrims

Manama

Following the deadly stampede in Mina yesterday, authorities have confirmed the safety of the 3,700 pilgrims from Bahrain in Mecca.

Quoting the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Foreign Affairs Ministry said that it was contacting the Bahrain Hajj convoys to get assured about the safety of all Bahraini Hajj pilgrims.

The Consulate General explained that the Street 204, where the stampede occurred, was far from the camps of Bahraini Hajj pilgrims.

Bahrain Hajj Mission Head Sheikh Adnan Al Qattan also informed that Bahraini Hajj pilgrims were safe.

In a telephone conversation on Bahrain National TV Channel yesterday, Al Qattan said he had contacted the licensed Bahrain Hajj convoys’ officials, who confirmed that Bahraini pilgrims were not among the dead or the wounded, and that their camps were far from the stampede site.

The same was later confirmed by Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa on his official Twitter account.

Mohammed Al Majid, the eldest son of MP Sheikh Majid Al Majid, who’s currently in Mecca, also informed DT News that pilgrims from Bahrain (including citizens and residents) were all safe and they were at their camp site when the mishap took place.
